Joseph Litto, MS, PhD is the General Manager of Litto Communications, LLC. He has over 30 years of experience in the life sciences industry. Prior to starting Litto Communications in 2009, he was Senior Vice President and Director of the Medical Information Source, a former medical specialty service at the healthcare agency LLNS (now TBWA\WORLDHEALTH), part of the Diversified Agency Services division of Omnicom Group Inc. The Medical Information Source provided outsourcing and consulting services in medical affairs, drug information, and clinical development to clients such as Pfizer Medical Information, Agouron Pharmaceuticals, Johnson and Johnson, Pfizer Animal Health, Pfizer Outcomes Research, Eisai, Medtronic Diabetes, Boston Scientific, Ortho-McNeil Janssen Scientific Affairs, and DURECT Corp. Joe was also a member of the Executive Management Committee of LLNS.
Joe previously worked in Medical Affairs at Integrated Communications Corp., Parsippany, New Jersey, where he advanced to Vice President, Group Director, Medical Affairs in 1999. His responsibilities included managing medical directors and medical writers, as well as creating and managing projects in medical education and professional marketing. Joe supported the Schering-Plough, Merck Vaccine, Ortho-McNeil, and Novartis client teams at Integrated.
Joe started his pharmaceutical business career in 1989 as a medical writer in the Medical Communications Department at the Schering-Plough Research Institute (SPRI), Kenilworth, New Jersey. In five years at SPRI, he contributed to multiple INDs and to the successful filing of several U.S. and worldwide marketing applications in Oncology, Infectious Diseases, and Allergy. At SPRI, he worked mainly on biotechnology and antineoplastic drug development programs, and was a member of the Oncology Project Team.
Joe graduated from the State University of New York at Albany with a BS in Biological Sciences. He received an MS in Physiology from Rutgers University, and a PhD in Physiology jointly from Rutgers University and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He was a Charles and Johanna Busch Pre-Doctoral Fellow, Bureau of Biological Research, at Rutgers. He then completed a postdoctoral research fellowship in the Program in Neuroscience at Princeton University. Joe was the recipient of a National Research Service Award (3-year grant) from the National Institute of Mental Health while at Princeton.
Joe is a member of the Drug Information Association.
